Pep Guardiola has joked that the only reason why he won the Premier League Manager of the Month award for February was because Antonio Conte’s “cupboard is full”.
For the first time this season, the Spanish tactician was rewarded for guiding Manchester City to three straight victories last month as he fended off competition from Conte, Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho as well as West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis to the award.
The City manager was presented with the award ahead of his pre-match press conference earlier today and suggested that his Italian counterpart would have had no space to store the trophy while talking to reporters.
“I think Conte’s cupboard is full, that’s why they decided to give it to someone else,” Guardiola said, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Despite victories over West Ham United, Swansea City and Bournemouth, City’s frustrating goalless draw against Stoke City this week means they are 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea with just 11 games remaining of the campaign.
