Frank Lampard has named five Chelsea players in his Premier League Team of the Season so far, but Alexis Sanchez fails to make the cut.
Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have been picked by Chelsea’s record goalscorer following their impressive performances under Antonio Conte this term.
Lampard, who opted not to choose anyone from Arsenal or Manchester City, also left out Zlatan Ibrahimovic and admitted that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku was unlucky not to be included alongside Costa in attack.
Lampard’s Eleven (4-4-2): David De Gea; Cesar Azpilicueta, Michael Keane, David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand; N’Golo Kante, Dele Alli, Adam lallana, Eden Hazard; Diego Costa, Harry Kane
‘Lukaku could make a case to get in there up front but I think those two are the outstanding strikers at the moment,’ Lampard told Sky Sports.
Lampard also gave a special mention to Burnley centre-back Michael Keane, who has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.
‘We have to give credit firstly to Burnley as a team,’ said the former midfielder.
‘I’ve been really impressed with their play and I think when you’re a player who’s been let go by a top team and you have to go back down the ladder and now you’re looking at him… I’ve seen some games where he’s been fantastic.
‘He might not be in everyone’s team of the year but I think you have to give respect to young English players who have made a mark and in a team who are defending a lot.’
