A big name Real Madrid star seems headed to Chelsea.
It’s no secret that Antonio Conte wants to add to Chelsea’s striking options this summer. One of his chief targets is Real Madrid front man Alvaro Morata. Fortunately for the Blues, Morata’s fiancée has dropped a massive hint about his willingness to make the move.
Reports from Spain claim that Morata’s fiancée, Alice Campello, has been shopping for homes in London recently. Her willingness to move to London was once thought to be a potential stumbling block for the transfer. Her apparent acceptance to move with Morata to England paves the way for his move to Chelsea.
Real Madrid would prefer to hang on to Morata, but their recent decision to retain Karim Benzema makes the young Spaniard expendable. Los Blancos may instead choose to cash in on a Morata Sale to fund big name purchases of their own.
From the Chelsea perspective, Morata gives Conte just the striker he’s been looking for. The two worked well together at Juventus and there’s no reason to think they won’t be effective at Chelsea. Morata has the skill, pace and eye for goal necessary to bag goals in England’s top flight.
If Morata does move to Stamford Bridge, it’s likely to spell the end of Diego Costa’s time at Chelsea. Morata isn’t going to make a move to any club where he doesn’t believe he’ll be the first choice striker. He’s bristled at reserve roles in Madrid and Turin. If he agrees to move to Chelsea, it means he believes he’ll be Conte’s unquestioned first choice forward.
Morata’s arrival would also dash any faint hopes Michy Batshuayi has of taking over Costa’s mantle. The Belgian has been a disappointment and will be sent on loan this summer. West Ham, in particular, seem keen to take him off of Conte’s hands.
A lot can happen between now and the summer transfer window, but Chelsea have to like the position they’re in with Alvaro Morata. You can be sure his fiancée isn’t shopping for investment property in London.
