Chelsea are set to rival Manchester United for the signing of Antoine Griezmann this summer by meeting the Atletico Madrid attacker’s £86 million release clause.
Griezmann is one of the most sought after players in world football and has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford. However, as reported by the Independent, Chelsea are also interested in signing the France international.
Atletico manager Diego Simeone previously admitted that the Spanish club may have no choice but to sell Griezmann if the attacker’s release clause is activated.
Chelsea are on track to win the Premier League title this campaign, but would certainly still welcome a player of Griezmann’s calibre if the move is feasible. United, meanwhile, will be seeking to perform significantly more consistently next season than they have done this time around.
If Griezmann is available this summer then Chelsea and United would surely face a considerable amount of competitions from other clubs in their quest to sign him.
