Chelsea have launched a transfer bid for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports.
It’s understood Antonio Conte is in the market for an attacking midfielder after Oscar completed a club record £60million move to Chinese outfit Shanghai SIPG.
Turkish-Football suggest the Blues have made a surprise January bid for Calhanoglu, with Conte increasingly keen on bringing the 22-year-old free kick specialist to Stamford Bridge.
Last month, Chelsea were watching the highly-rated Turkey international, who has been Leverkusen’s standout player this term, and he greatly impressed club scouts.
However, it appears the Blues could come up against competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United who are also very keen on Calhanoglu.
And the midfielder even admitted it would be hard to turn the Red Devils down, telling Lig Tv: Barcelona and Manchester United are huge clubs it would be difficult to turn them down.
‘But I have not said anything about any transfers or anything of the sort.’
Chelsea to win the league by 7pts, but computer predicts bad news for Arsenal
Chelsea have been predicted as clear Premier League winners this season by Sports Analytics Machine (SAM), a super-computer built by professor Ian McHale.
The machine, which makes predictions based on form so far this season and a number of other factors, also sees Arsenal finishing outside of the top four for the first time since 1995/96, and below rivals Tottenham for the first time since 1994/95.
SAM’s predictions see Spurs move up into second place, overtaking Liverpool as Chelsea’s main challengers and claiming their highest finish since they also ended as runners-up in 1962/63.
The predictions are subject to change if major players pick up injuries, but few would argue that Chelsea look clear favourites to lift the Premier League trophy come the end of the season.
The Blues have been in sensational form of late, winning 13 top flight matches in a row before that run was surprisingly halted by Tottenham in a 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane.
Club finally speak out over Chelsea’s £16m bid for defender on official website
Chelsea have not made a transfer offer for Simon Kjaer, Fenerbahce have claimed in an official statement.
Various reports suggest Antonio Conte is lining up a £16million bid for Kjaer, with the Italian keen to bring defensive reinforcements to Stamford Bridge in January.
However, Kjaer, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, appears to be going nowhere after Fenerbahce suggested the recent speculation was unfounded.
‘A number of recent reports have falsely claimed that Chelsea have made an offer for our Danish player Simon Kjaer,’ a statement on the Turkish club’s official website reads.
‘Fenerbahce have not received any offers whatsoever for Kjaer and any claims suggesting a transfer could take place are wrong.
‘Kjaer is a happy and successful member of our team.
‘We would like to ask our fans to disregard such lies and manipulative reports that aim to disrupt our team.’
