James Rodriguez has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in January, with the Colombian midfielder set for a move away from Real Madrid.
Reports have surfaced that he is keen on a switch to Stamford Bridge after growing frustrated at his lack of action in the Spanish capital.
After Real Madrid’s transfer ban was reduced, the exit door has been pushed wide open for the 25-year-old, who moved to the Santiago Bernabeu for £63.75million from Monaco in 2014.
It’s been suggested in some quarters that Rodriguez is something of a luxury player but stats suggest that’s not the case.
Since his arrival in La Liga, no midfielder has contributed directly to more goals than the former Porto ace.
La Liga stats since 2014/15 season
Rodriguez has scored 21 goals and provided 23 assists in just 63 matches in Spain’s top flight.
That’s more than team-mates Toni Kroos and Luka Modric and Barcelona duo Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic.
Of course, Rodriguez may be seen as more attack-minded than the other midfielders compared below but he’s certainly proven he can directly impact on games and would be a tasty addition to any side in the Premier League.
