Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he didn’t have Chelsea down as Premier League title contenders this season but the Blues’ recent form has forced him to think he got it wrong.
Chelsea secured a fantastic 3-1 win against Manchester City on Saturday to make it eight consecutive league wins and put Antonio Conte’s side top of the division.
The form shown by the Blues is in stark contrast to the side that only finished tenth last campaign after a horror campaign, with Chelsea inconsistent at best for large portions last season.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has confessed he didn’t consider the London side as one of the teams in the running to win the league this season, because of how they played last year.
However the pundit has admitted the defeat of City means that Chelsea are now certainly one of the favourites to claim the top flight title.
Ferdinand told BT Sport: “I didn’t have them as contenders at the start of the season, I thought they were too far off last season.
“Credit to the management. They’ve gone to the Etihad and absolutely destroyed this Man City team.”
