DIEGO COSTA insists he can get even better.
The Chelsea striker has been in stellar form this season, hitting back from his struggles last term.
He has scored 13 Premier League goals already, helping Antonio Conte’s Blues to the top of the table.
While the 28-year-old Spaniard has been one of the top-flight’s most devastating players this season, he says he will improve in the second half of the campaign.
He told Chelsea’s website: “I have been better than I am now.
“And that gives me more motivation to try to get better. That’s what I will carry on doing.
“I don’t set myself personal targets, in terms of goals and assists. What I try to do is improve, always.
“If the previous campaign hasn’t been very good, or even if it has, I just try to do a better campaign than the one before. My main aspiration, and not just mine, my team-mates’ too, is to conquer the title again.
“I felt we like had something to prove coming into this season. Last season we left a debt behind, so to speak.
“And that’s the secret to our great form this season. We owe a lot to our people and we are hoping we are going to be able to pay that back.”
Chelsea, who beat Bournemouth 3-0 on Boxing Day, are currently six points ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League table.
The Blues were without Costa against the Cherries, who was serving a one-game suspension, but he will return for their clash with Stoke today.
Diego Costa hails Chelsea star: There are very few people like him, he’s extraordinary
DIEGO COSTA has lavished praise on Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard.
Hazard, like the rest of the Chelsea squad, struggled last season in their torrid campaign.
But the Belgian ace has hit back under Antonio Conte this term, netting nine times in the league already.
Costa, who is also enjoying a fine season, says Hazard is one of a kind and his quality is helping the rest of the Blues squad improve.
The 28-year-old striker told Chelsea’s website: “Eden is just incredible.
“He’s the sort of player who is able to win a match by himself. He’s extraordinary.
“There are very few people like him. He’s very confident in what he does and he is transmitting that confidence to us.”
Costa also hailed fellow Chelsea attacker Pedro.
The Spaniard has scored four goals and provided six assists so far this season.
Costa added: “Pedro is a very good player and he comes from an incredible school, he comes from Barcelona.
“He scores goals like the ones against Tottenham and Bournemouth all the time when we are training.
“The thing is Pedro, Willian, and Eden are all great players and they are in great form right now.
“That definitely helps me as a striker and I hope it will make us win many more matches.”
Chelsea are in action against Stoke today as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Batshuayi wants to stay at Chelsea – Conte
Antonio Conte says Michy Batshuayi wants to stay at Chelsea despite being overlooked for a first-team place.
The summer signing from Marseille is still waiting for his first Premier League start.
Blues boss Conte even opted not to give it to him against Bournemouth on Boxing Day, when Diego Costa was suspended.
A number of clubs, including West Ham, have been linked with the 23-year-old Belgian and there have been reports that he is unhappy at Stamford Bridge.
But Conte ruled out sending him on loan after the Bournemouth game – and insists the player is happy with that decision.
“He wants to stay and I am happy for this. He is a young player and is starting his path in football,” Conte said.
“I think it’s very important for him as a footballer to complete this season [at Chelsea]. We are working a lot with him.”
