Chelsea first team star: ‘I want to live in Madrid’, ‘Hazard would happily play in goal for Conte’ and more

MARCOS ALONSO has admitted when he leaves Chelsea and ends his playing career he wants to live in Madrid.

The summer signing has impressed for the Blues in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation and has helped them to the top of the Premier League table.

Alonso has made the left wingback role his own, making 13 appearances and scoring one goal.

He told the club’s website: “My home city is Madrid and when I finish playing football that’s where I will live, but there are some lovely places to go on holiday.

“Formentera, an island off Ibiza, is amazing.

“The Canary Islands, where you have good weather all year round, are great.

“I also like Santander, which is where my father is from.

“It’s a great city, it’s not very big but I really enjoy it when I go there.”

“When I finish playing football that’s where I will live”

Chelsea have won their last 12 Premier League matches to move six points clear of Liverpool at the top of table.

Next up for the Blues is a home clash against Stoke on New Year’s Eve.

Chelsea have won the Premier League on every occasion they have been top on Christmas Day and will be confident of doing the same this campaign.

Eden Hazard would do anything for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and this is why – pundit

EDEN HAZARD would happily play in goal for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

That’s the opinion of pundit Garth Crooks who has hailed the Belgian for his performances this season.

Hazard has scored nine times and provided one assist this campaign to help the Blues to the top of the Premier League table.

Crooks told BBC Sport: “In the absence of Diego Costa you might have thought that other strikers like Michy Batshuayi might have been given a game.

“But if you are Antonio Conte and you understand the mentality of your players and garner respect from your players you can get them to do almost anything.

“Eden Hazard seems to be in a place where if Conte were to ask the player to play in goal the answer would probably be ‘yes boss’.

“Conte appears to have total control over his players at this moment.

“To see Hazard play up front as the lone striker was quite remarkable.

“However what was even more troubling was the way the Belgium international did it with so much ease.

“Someone better tell Alan Shearer we have found another world-class player in the Premier League!”

Chelsea have won 12 Premier League matches on the bounce to open up a six point gap to Liverpool in second.

The Blues welcome Stoke to Stamford Bridge next on New Year’s Eve.

Robbie Savage’s response when asked if Man United can catch Chelsea in the title race

Robbie Savage has poured cold water on talk of Manchester United catching Chelsea in the Premier League title race.

The Red Devils have won their last four Premier League games following successive victories over Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland.

Indeed, Manchester United were 3-1 winners against the Black Cats thanks to goals from Daley Blind, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s side were previously ruled out of the title race by a number of ex-professionals after a run of two wins in 11 top-flight games but Manchester United have kick-started their campaign in recent weeks.

Although the Red Devils are 13 points adrift of leaders Chelsea, there has been talk of Manchester United catching Mourinho’s former employers should they slip up in the title race.

Speaking on BBC’s 606 podcast on Monday night after the Boxing Day fixtures in the Premier League, Savage ruled out the prospect of Manchester United winning the title.

“I can’t see Manchester United making up 13 points on Chelsea,” Savage said.
