MARCOS ALONSO has revealed his Chelsea team-mates are helping him learn French at Stamford Bridge.
The Spaniard singled out Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante for special praise as he seeks to learn his fourth language fluently.
Alonso has been a key man for Antonio Conte this season and has cemented himself as the left wingback in his 3-4-3 formation.
The summer signing told the club’s website: “I speak English, Italian, Spanish and a bit of French.
“I’m working on my French right now, I used to be good when I was in school but when I went to Italy I didn’t speak it as much.
“It’s good here because I can practice with people like Kante and Hazard.”
Alonso made the switch from Fiorentina for £23m on transfer deadline day.
Since then he has made 13 appearances in the Premier League in helping Chelsea to the top of the table.
The Blues lead Liverpool by three points as they aim to lift the trophy in May.
Next up for Conte’s side is a home clash against Stoke on New Year’s Eve where they will aim to make it 13 wins on the bounce.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp aims dig at Chelsea: Manchester City are better
JURGEN KLOPP has highlighted the challenge Liverpool face from Manchester City on New Year’s Eve – insisting their opponents are a bigger threat than Chelsea on paper.
All three sides are very much in the Premier League title race, with Antonio Conte’s Chelsea leading the way.
Second-placed Liverpool are one of only two teams to have beaten them so far, but the Blues have been impressive, especially in their 12-game winning run.
Pep Guardiola’s side have had a parallel season in how they started well but have struggled since, although Manchester City are still just one point behind Liverpool.
Ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Anfield (5.30pm), Jurgen Klopp has thrown a small dig at high-flying Chelsea by commending City’s talents.
“They were in a good way and then a few things happened,” Klopp said on City’s season.
“City and Chelsea completely different teams, different ways of playing football.
“City have the highest quality in the team and highest quality on the bench.”
Chelsea face Stoke at Stamford Bridge before Liverpool and City face off, and the Blues can briefly extend their lead to nine points if they win.
Conte will have Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante back available, with both having shone this season.
Meanwhile, John Stones is a doubt after he limped off at Hull.
Klopp also revealed Joel Matip and Philippe Coutinho are still not ready to return for Liverpool in two day’s time.
Chelsea star warms up for Stoke City with Jose Mourinho jibe
Eden Hazard has taken an apparent swipe at Jose Mourinho ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Stoke on Saturday.
Hazard not only claims the current Chelsea team is the best he has ever played in, but adds: “We try to do something that we didn’t do in the past. We score some goals.”
Chelsea go into the Stoke game on the back of an astonishing 12-match winning sequence which has given them a six-point cushion at the top of the table.
Hazard, by common consent back to his player-of-the-year form of 2014/15 after labouring under Mourinho last season, has told the Evening Standard: “We feel good. We are full of confidence. We take game after game and try to win every game.
“We don’t look at records, but if we can make history in this club we will. It’s not only about Chelsea, this league. This league is very difficult. Every game we try to win.
“But now the opponents try to give everything because they want to be first. Now we are first and everyone wants to beat us.”
