Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admits he can’t believe that Victor Moses’ potential was overlooked for so long after three years away on loan from Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian wide-man has had a superb start to the 2016/17 season, despite low-key spells with Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham in the last three seasons.

As well as that, Moses has also had to adapt to a new role under Conte, making the move from wide-forward to wing-back in Chelsea’s highly successful 3-4-3 system.

Conte has taken huge credit for changing Chelsea’s system and getting the most out of fringe players like Moses, but the Italian himself believes it was instantly obvious to him that the 25-year-old should have been involved.

‘I noticed his potential from the first days of the summer retreat,’ he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘Moses has important qualities: technique, physical strength, the ability to cover seventy metres of the pitch.

‘I find it incredible that someone like him has been overlooked.’

Moses first joined Chelsea in the 2012/13 season, but was loaned out every subsequent summer as soon as Jose Mourinho returned to the club.
