Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing up a controversial January bid for Chelsea playmaker Willian, according to The Daily Star.
The Red Devils boss is expected to dip into the transfer market in the new year as he tries to secure a top-four finish for the Old Trafford outfit in the Premier League.
Willian was one of Mourinho’s favourite players during his tenure at Stamford Bridge, with the Brazilian midfielder one of the first names on the Portuguese coach’s teamsheet.
However, following Antonio Conte’s switch in formation to a 3-4-2-1 system, the former Shakhtar Donetsk star is no longer guaranteed a starting berth in the Blues’ team.
Mourinho reportedly wants to take advantage of this uncertainty and will test Chelsea’s resolve with a January offer for the South American schemer.
Juan Mata has swapped Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford in the recent past, with the Portuguese trainer selling the Spaniard to the Red Devils.
