Juan Mata revealed the importance of Roberto Di Matteo’s “communication” skills ahead of Chelsea‘s Champions League triumph in 2012, claiming he put them on the right path.
Andre Villas-Boas arrived at Stamford Bridge in June 2011 following the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti, but after some poor results in the Premier League and questionable team selections, he was sacked in March 2012, with former Chelsea midfielder Di Matteo named on an interim basis.
However the Italian surpassed all expectations in the final months of that season, leading the Blues to the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich. Di Matteo’s men won the clash on penalties to secure the club their first European crown, but within months of that victory he was sacked by Roman Abramovich.
