FORMER Chelsea ace Jason Cundy believes John Terry has been the best defender in Premier League history.
Terry has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with the 35-year-old’s contract due to run out at the end of the season.
Former Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas wants to take him to Shanghai SIP in the Chinese Super League.
And Cundy admits Terry’s Chelsea career is coming to an end.
“One thing I can see and it’s not something any Chelsea fan wants to hear but I do think it will be his last season at Chelsea,” he said on talkSPORT.
“He has been the best defender in the Premier League for me.
“I can’t at the moment find a place for him in that team.
“You can’t give contracts sentimentally.
“Players get old and move on, its inevitable I’m afraid.”
But Cundy wants him to remain with the Blues until the end of the season and not leave in the winter transfer window.
“I wouldn’t get rid of him in January, no way,” he added.
“He’s valuable to Chelsea. He is Mr Chelsea.
“Not just on the pitch, but off the pitch. He represents me as a fan.
“He may feel maybe he needs to leave to play first-team football, I would love to see him stay until the end of the season.”
