Eden Hazard’s father has admitted his disappointment at seeing his son branded a “rat” by some Chelsea fans last season.
Both Hazard and Chelsea endured campaigns to forget last term as the Blues ended up in 10th place in the Premier League table and with their title defence in tatters.
Jose Mourinho was sacked as Chelsea boss back in December after a disastrous start to the west London side’s title defence.
Some Chelsea supporters turned on a selection of players as their season unravelled in the wake of Mourinho’s sacking.
And Hazard was among three stars labelled “rats” in a banner unveiled by a fan after Mourinho was sacked in December of last year.
Hazard’s father Thierry was disappointed to see the negative reaction from Chelsea supporters directed towards his son.
Thierry Hazard told Belgian newspaper DH: “As a father, what really annoyed me was when I saw the banner with the three rats in the dressing room, and that Eden was one of them.
“The fans went a bit too far. It isn’t Eden who is going to sabotage Mourinho, Conte or anyone else.
“Eden wants to play. As a father, that hurt.”
Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League table and a point behind leaders Liverpool after 11 games of the new season.
