Chelsea’s out-of-favour defender Branislav Ivanovic as emerged as a potential transfer target for Barcelona.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barca boss Luis Enrique is looking at the possibility of bringing the Serbia international to the Nou Camp in January.
Barcelona could well be a possible destination for the right-back. The Catalan giants are facing the prospect of losing Aleix Vidal in the January transfer window, and are looking for replacements.
They are confident of landing Joao Cancelo from Valencia in the summer, but want a top-quality defender until then. It seems like experience is a big factor for them. Shakhtar Donetsk’s Darijo Srna and Juventus’ Stephan Lichtsteiner are at the top of their wishlist along with Ivanovic.
Ivanovic has had to contend with a place on the substitutes bench for much of the season so far, making eight appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
Antonio Conte could be set to offload several fringe players within his ranks during the January window, with the 32-year-old expected to be one of them.
Ivanovic’s current contract runs out at the end of the season, meaning he will not command a high fee in January if Barcelona follow up on their interest.
