David Luiz has proven his doubters wrong after leading one of Chelsea’s best defensive displays “in years” against Everton, according to Garth Crooks.
Luiz was a shock £34million transfer deadline day signing for Antonio Conte this summer, two years after the Premier League club sold the Brazilian centre-back to Paris Saint-Germain.
The 29-year-old earned a reputation for his gung-ho approach during his first Stamford Bridge spell, but has impressed in Conte’s new 3-4-3 formation, with Chelsea earning five Premier League wins in a row with five clean sheets.
Former Tottenham and Charlton forward Crooks now feels that he was wrong to doubt Conte’s move for Luiz, and has backed the Brazilian after keeping Romelu Lukaku quiet in the 5-0 victory over Everton last Saturday.
