Chelsea legend: I can’t believe Stamford Bridge star Victor Moses has done this

Chelsea hero Colin Pates has been taken aback by Victor Moses’ performances this season.

The 25-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge this summer following a year-long loan spell with cross-city rivals West Ham.

And despite looking unlikely to ever establish himself in west London, he has managed to impress under Antonio Conte so far this term.

Moses has been deployed as a right wing-back in the former Juventus gaffer’s new-look 3-4-3 system.

And Pates, who made 346 appearances for Chelsea between 1979 and 1988, says he could never have imagined the Nigeria international would adapt so well to the role.

“He’s having a fantastic season, is playing really well and it really suits him,” the former Blues captain told The Sun.

“I would never in a million years have said he would be a wing-back. You just didn’t think that was the role he would have taken up and enjoyed.

“But he has developed, he’s proved a lot of people wrong and it looks like he’s absolutely loving it to me.”

Pates, who coached Moses during his time at Whitgift School in Croydon, will be hoping the recently converted winger can shine again when Chelsea play host to Tottenham on Saturday.
