Such was the disappointment of failing to secure the primary defensive targets this summer, that Chelsea are already planning to lap up an in-demand defender in the coming transfer window in January. And it is one of those original targets from the summer.
Milan’s 21-year-old centre back Alessio Romagnoli was on Chelsea’s wishlist as a backup to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly this summer. But after failing to sign Koulibaly, as Chelsea chased Romagnoli, Milan repelled the overtures and discouraged the Blues from making any further bids.
Antonio Conte is an admirer of the Italian centre back, and the club had made a bid of £35 million back in the summer.
However, Milan had rejected the bid straight away, saying he was not for sale. But Chelsea are ready to test Milan’s resolve again by making a £49 million bid in January according to the Sun.
