Chelsea coach Antonio Conte today appeared to suggest he will drop Chelsea captain John Terry back to the bench for the trip to Southampton on Sunday.
Terry made his comeback after over six weeks out with an ankle injury against West Ham in the EFL Cup Fourth Round and struggled in the 2-1 defeat.
The 35-year-old hadn’t played in Conte’s preferred 3-4-3 formation before and didn’t look comfortable all night.
Conte refused to blame Terry’s display for the defeat, but did hint that he will make changes for the trip to St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.
Before the loss to West Ham, Chelsea had won three straight League games with Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill as the back three, without conceding a goal.
