Manager: “This 18-year-old Loanee is already ready to start in Chelsea’s first eleven”
We have always had talented youngsters playing in the academy. Two back to back UEFA Youth League titles, and three back to back FA Youth Cups are proof of the abundance of talent Chelsea have in their ranks. But much of this talent will never get to play for Chelsea, and will be seen flourishing on loan or sold permanently to other clubs.
Now, going on loan to another club from Chelsea is not something new. And many loanees have performed well at their on loan clubs. We have seen how Patrick Bamford banged in 17 goals in 39 appearances for Middlesbrough in the 2014-15 season. Last year, Marco Van Ginkel scored eight from 13 matches for PSV. All good performances no doubt.
But imagine, at the age of just 18, you are suddenly thrust into the limelight and pressure of first team football in a men’s league. And you score barely 48 hours after signing for your new club. And it does not stop there. You then go on to score eight more goals in merely 10 more appearances!!
