Chelsea have backed out of a deal to sign Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, according to reports.

Express Sport understands Lindelof was a £25m target for the Blues over the summer.

In the end, Antonio Conte settled on David Luiz.

But it seems they have turned their attentions to Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule, with the player’s agent, Karlheinz Forster, telling German paper Bild: “Yes, there was interest [from Chelsea].

“The English club have made it clear that their interest will remain valid next year.”
