Club captain John Terry walked into Chelsea’s training grounds as a 14-year-old and since then, for years now, Chelsea have been looking up to him to make those solid tackles, to make goal-line clearances, to head away dangerous crosses and to shout instructions from the back to keep the defensive line solid.
No Chelsea fan can ever forget his heroics in the blue shirt, be it making a goal-line clearance with his head from a Ryan Giggs shot in the Champions League final, or taking Diaby’s kick to the head in the league cup final against Arsenal, or scoring the stoppage time equalizer against Everton last season.
Since he became club captain in 2004, Terry has guided Chelsea to 4 league titles, 5 FA Cups, 3 league cups, a Champions League and a Europa League. Apart from winning numerous individual awards, including PFA player of the year, Terry found himself in many “Team of the Year” listings.
