Zouma “Happy” With His Contribution, Talks About The Arsenal Win
Kurt Zouma has probably been our best CB this season. And when you come to think of it, the Frenchman is still only 20-years-old!
Zouma’s contribution was immense in our weekend win against Arsenal. Whether it was keeping the likes of Theo Walcott quiet or that first goal that sealed the deal for the Blues, Kurt Zouma was brilliant in the whole game. Talking to our official website in the aftermath of the game, Zouma reflected on the win:
“It was an amazing feeling, because when you play the big derby you’re always excited and for me it was an amazing game because I scored for the team and the team did very well, like we did on Wednesday, so we are very happy. I am very happy with the goal, with the win and with the clean sheet as well.”
“I’m very happy and proud because that was the first win at home in the Premier League this season, that’s the most important thing for me, and the first goal is really important. I’m really happy because we worked hard for that and I think we deserved it.
Wow, so much usage of the word “Happy”. I wonder if there was some pun intended!
As the defender mentioned, it was a Derby that we needed to win. Being 11 points behind the leader is never an ideal situation and a win was desperately needed to get our season back on track. That Victor Moses gave us a bonus gift by sinking city and reducing the gap to just 8 points, was the cherry on top!
Zouma was also asked about the importance of this win and the defender replied:
“It’s very important for us because this kind of game will give us more confidence now and we showed that Chelsea are still there and we are a very strong team. Now we have to just keep going and improve that.”
Yes, keep improving. Carry forward with this form and confidence. That’s the motto!
Zouma also revealed what Jose Mourinho said to the team before the game:
“We don’t have pressure in the dressing room. We know who we are and we just had some bad results since the beginning of the season, but now we showed who we really are and what we can do.
‘The boss said before the game: “Forget the table – play the game to win and to show them that they are going to lose”.
“Together we have to stay concentrated and keep improving. We have to work hard every day in training. We are very happy because we won two games and kept two clean sheets but we know there is still a long way to go, the year is really long, so we have to keep working.”
Right now, Zouma is performing at a magnificent level and so is Cahill. John Terry might not be the same World Class CB as he used to be, but the Englishman is still quality. We even have our new signing Papy Djilobodji if the need ever arises:
“It’s good for us because we have good defenders – I can play, John Terry can play, Gaz did well as well. So now we just have to recover our defensive organisation from last year. It doesn’t matter who plays, we have to just keep going and keep clean sheets.”

A couple of clean sheets in one week after letting in a million goals in the last few games; I say we are improving. Not to mention, it’s the same team that won the League last season. All we need to do now is to stick with our new found confidence and put some much-needed wins under our belt and hopefully, reduce the gap even further.
