Walsall vs. Chelsea – Things We Learned

Chelsea defeated League 1 side Walsall comfortably 4-1.

It was a fairly comfortable win for the Blues, with Walsall clearing off the line THRICE in the match. The Blues face Stoke City away from home in the next round. But before that, let’s look at a few things we learned from the game-

Kenedy is going to be a future superstar-

Brazilian teenager Kenedy scored a goal and had an assist in his first start for Chelsea. The youngster also showed why Jose Mourinho trusted him so much and why he wasn’t sent on loan. His directness, pace and general style of play was a treat to watch. His performances certainly show that he can be a super sub for Chelsea this season, and a vital part of the team in the future.

The squad players will be very useful

Part of the reason Chelsea didn’t end last season as well as they had started it was because of the lack of a big squad, and mostly because of poor performances by the backup players. With the emergence of Loftus-Cheek and Kenedy compiled with an excellent showing by Mikel and Ramires, Chelsea’s bench looks a whole lot stronger and better.

Falcao needs to get his shooting boots on

Overall, Radamel Falcao had a decent outing last night. But had it been the Falcao two seasons prior, he would have ended up with a hat-trick at least. His movement was good; he held up the ball well, stretched the opposition well and was generally a threat. But when it came to the finishing, it looked as if he had put Torresian boots on instead of his own. 2 goal line clearances to his shots also didn’t help. With Costa suspended for the next two games, Falcao needs to contribute with more than just that.

The Youngsters continue to impress

Chelsea had a very young team playing in the starting XI. The likes of Baba, Kenedy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, had gotten starts while Djilobodji made his debut late on. All the youngsters had a great outing. Loftus-Cheek’s runs through the spine of the opposition were Yaya Toure-esque. His all-round performance was absolutely outstanding, and it’s a matter of when rather than if he becomes a regular at the starting XI.

The Season looks to be completely back on track

3 games, 10 goals scored, 1 conceded. It looks a lot better now, after the torrid start to the season by the Premier League Champions. The team also looks like it is gelling together and it seems the future is only bright in the coming months.
