John Obi Mikel has been surplus to requirement at the Bridge for a long time now.
No longer a regular in the starting eleven (was he ever?), the Nigerian is struggling to even manage a bit-part role under Mourinho.
Now, I know, most of the Blues fans are divided in their opinions when it comes to Obi Mikel. Some consider him as an asset who is brilliant coming off the bench and closing down the shop for us, just like he did against West Brom. a couple of weeks back.
While, some consider him as a liability; a one-dimensional player, who offers nothing magnificent on the field. The sideways passing, the inability to take the ball forward, the incapability to press high up the pitch and blocking the minutes of youngsters like RLC, seems to be the points put forward by his critics.
Well, it’s a good knows for the Blue fans who don’t consider Mikel as a starting material in our squad. As we are already aware, the Turkish side, Besiktas, were very much interested in the services of the Nigerian in the summer transfer window and the deal had nearly been finalized, according to various news outlets; but, in the end, nothing came out of it.
Well, as it turns out, Mikel was indeed interested in leaving the Bridge for regular first team minutes in Turkey, but Mourinho and co. blocked or rather “delayed” his transfer to Besiktas:
“Be?ikta? have struck an agreement with Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, to loan the Nigerian international in January according to the AMK.
“The report states that the 28-year-old midfielder wants first team football. Mikel has only played six minutes for the reigning Premier League champions this season.
“Mikel still has another two-years on his contract and has made a total of 340 appearances for the Blues since joining from FK Lyn back in 2004 for a move that cost in total £14 million.
“The Black Eagles were in talks with the experienced midfielder over the summer but football agent Mesrin ?zzet claimed Blues boss Jose Mourinho wanted Mikel to stay at the club.
“The agent told that Mikel could join Be?ikta? in January in-fact it would not be a surprise as he wants to play in Turkey and wants first team football”

So, the 28-year-old is reportedly set to join the Turkish giants in January transfer window!
Well, if that’s the case, the question is why Chelsea blocked his transfer in the summer window? Are we going to make a marquee midfield signing in January window? Pogba? Witsel?
Or is it that, Mourinho gradually wanted to integrate Ruben Loftus-Cheek in our squad and probably that’s why he is holding on to Mikel so that it helps the smooth transitioning of the young Englishman!
The news outlets are trying to include Pogba in all of our transfer activities but, I guess, if Mikel does leave in January, we won’t be replacing him with another signing, rather it would be RLC’s turn to shine in the Blue, if he continues his development!
