It shouldn’t have been surprising. Our performance, yes, it was disappointing, but no, not surprising!
We have been struggling so much at the back that it’s been 9 games in a row that we haven’t managed to keep a clean sheet. Fans are lining up to blame Ivanovic, and although, he is one of the major problems, it’s not just him but the whole team that has underperformed consistently.
After watching yesterday’s loss, I don’t feel like doing player ratings, but still, here we are:
ASMIR BEGOVIC – 7
What more can a Goalkeeper do? He can try his best to stop the ball going into the net, but what can he do about the continued defensive mistakes and vulnerability at the back? Begovic tried his best, made a couple of brilliant saves, but he was going to lose the battle in the end!
JOHN TERRY AND KURT ZOUMA – 4
Both the Centre Backs were caught day napping in the first and third goal scored by Everton yesterday. It was just too easy for Naismith to get past both of them, under no pressure whatsoever and bury the ball into the net. Awful stuff from the duo!
BRANISLAV IVANOVIC – 5
An improved performance from the Serbian, but as Mourinho said, every mistake have unfortunately been punished with a goal. Ivanovic was responsible for backing off too much on the second goal scored by Naismith. Well, at least, the Serbian was a lot better on the attack!
CESAR AZPILICUETA – 6
Yet again, our best defender among the back four, Cesar had a good game overall.
JOHN OBI MIKEL – 6
I thought the Nigerian did pretty well in his time on the field. The presence of Mikel in the midfield meant that Matic and Fabregas could roam forward more often than not. Why he was subbed off while Fab stayed is beyond me though!
NEMANJA MATIC – 8
At least one of the senior guys is back in form!
The Serbian tank was brilliant going forward, scoring a screamer to make it 2-1 in the first half. Definitely our best player yesterday!
CESC FABREGAS – 4
The Spaniard continued his woeful form by being largely anonymous on the field. There’s a reason he doesn’t fair out well in the CAM role and I think it was pretty obvious yesterday.
EDEN HAZARD – 4
It’s the lowest I have rated the Belgian in my time. Eden Hazard just like Fabregas continued his dismal performance at Goodison Park yesterday.
PEDRO – 6
Pedro was definitely the best of our attacking lots but even the Spaniard couldn’t find a way to get things going for us.
DIEGO COSTA – 4
Another bad performance from Costa, but that was expected. He has been terribly out of form and it’s a surprise that Mourinho’s still sticking with him.
ROBERT KENEDY – 5
I know a lot of us expected him to play like he did at Crystal palace, but the Brazilian is still 19-years-old and it would take a bit of time before he develops the consistency.
WILLIAN – 4
Came on, did nothing.
RADAMEL FALCAO – 4
Came on, couldn’t get going. I think he needs to start over Costa on Wednesday.
