This time, last year, Diego Costa was a force to be reckoned with. By taking up the Premier League by storm, Costa announced his arrival and showed what he can do in front of goals.
Fast forward to this year, and the Spaniard is struggling for goals and fitness. For a man who could draw terror in opposition defenders just by his presence on the pitch, his goal record isn’t anything to be proud of.
With just one goal for Chelsea in 4 starts so far, the 26-year-old has clearly struggled up front. Currently on International duty, Diego haven’t had a great time for Vicente Del Bosque’s side too.
Costa was substituted yesterday at the hour mark in Spain’s 1-0 win over Macedonia. If we thought that his lack of goals with the national side was the result of bad service from behind, well, his replacement, Paco Alcacer thoroughly showed that wasn’t the case as the 22-year-old impressed in his outing.
Costa probably realizes this and he had the following to say after the game:
“I have a lot to improve and I have to start scoring goals. I’ve tried moving out to the wings.
“For my part, it’s not going to continue like this. I will keep working with my club to improve.
“I get really excited when I’m called by the national team. Personally, I’m not happy because I haven’t reached my objective, to score.
“But I am happy that Spain won. It’s an important three points for qualification.”
Oh and another thing. Costa was booked through Tuesday’s win over Macedonia and as a result, is banned for the game against Luxembourg. Meanwhile, the Striker didn’t realize this until he was informed by a media person:
“I’m suspended? That’s the first I’ve heard.”

Well, things certainly aren’t going his way, are they?
After much goals and good performances, Diego is currently going through a bad patch, and it’s up to him now to pick himself up and get back to his usual best before it’s too late at club and national level!
