Last season saw Chelsea completing a domestic double. Impressive, right?
Sure, the whole team worked very hard for that, including the new arrivals; Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, whose assists and goals respectively, help us clinch the Premier League title. But, I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that it was probably Eden Hazard who carried the team to the finishing line when it mattered!
The Belgian is one of the top players in the world and the winger duly showed that last season with his goals, assists, trickeries and the terror he consistently generated in the opposition defenders. PFA player of the season? Well, it was just a formality as no one even came close to the Belgian and the impact he had for the Blues!
As we entered the second half of the last season, Oscar and Fabregas predictably faded away, while Diego Costa struggled with his hamstring problems. It was Eden Hazard who took the responsibility on his shoulders to lead the Blues attack and he was usually successful.
But, relying on one man has its negatives too as we found out with Hazard. Surrounding him by 2-3 defenders became a popular tactics among the manager while, other attacking players such as Willian lacked in the goalscoring department. Result? We became a bit one-dimensional. Here enters Pedro!
It’s been a long time since we had a natural goalscoring threat on the Right Wing. The Spaniard provides just that! Signed from Barcelona, the 28-year-old has got the pace, ability, and the trickery to take on his man and score and assists consistently as he showed against West Brom last week.
So what does that mean for Hazard? Well, it means that the opposition manager won’t have the luxury to mark the Belgian with 2-3 defenders because we also have Pedro doing the exact same thing on the opposite wing! Talking to the press, Courtois had the exact same views:
“Pedro’s arrival is good for Eden. Whenever Eden got the ball before, you knew that two or three players would go with him to try to stop him. The defenders were always close to him.
“Of course, we have other players with quality but opponents would cover Eden most of all.
“Now we have Pedro, the defenders can’t just stay with Eden because they will know the other side is free for him to exploit, as well as for players like Willian and our top strikers.

That’s exactly what we have been saying here at GHJB since the arrival of Pedro!
Hopefully, the arrival of the Spaniard means Eden Hazard will have more chances to showcase his talents and maybe even enter the league of Ronaldo/Messi? One can dream, right?
