Silly Rumors? Van Der Wiel Supposedly Lined Up As Ivanovic’s Replacement!

One bad performance and the world is already exploding with replacements. That’s the life of Branislav Ivanovic!

Regarded as the best Right Back in the Premier League, the Serbian has received a lot of flack after his performance against Swansea. Deservedly so, as Montero repeatedly destroyed Ivanovic with his superior pace on the wings. It was one of the worst performance from the big Serbian in the recent memory and it definitely deserved all the criticism.

But as it turns out, all these criticism wasn’t enough. The tabloids have one-upped that by linking us to Ivanovic’s supposed replacement! The man we are being linked to here is Gregory Van Der Wiel!

“Gregory van der Wiel has reportedly emerged as a shock transfer target for Chelsea, with the Blues making an official approach to sign the player. According to Le Parisien, Chelsea have approached PSG over a deal for the Dutch international, and are keen to put him straight into the first XI.”

Well, I remember being linked to the Dutch Right Back around 2010 FIFA World Cup, and I was very excited about the idea of him joining us. But then we got Cesar Azpilicueta and well, that turned out quite well, didn’t it?

Frankly, I can’t see the sense of Chelsea going for Van Der Wiel. Sure, he is a good fullback, but if we do want to replace Ivanovic, don’t we already have Azpilicueta? With the signing of Baba Rahman, Jose Mourinho will have the option of using the Spaniard at the Right Back role, if and when he deems fit. At least that’s what I think anyway. What’s your view on the situation?
