Loic Remy was signed from QPR for a fee of 10.5 million pounds as a replacement to Fernando Torres, who was shipped to AC Milan on the way to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid.
Remy was mostly signed as a second choice to Diego Costa, but the Frenchman mostly fell behind Didier Drogba in the pecking order.
The Frenchman started only six games for Chelsea in the League but was influential, especially in the second half of the season, when the opportunities were given. His major contributions were his two winners in successive weeks in March, and also his goal against the former Champions Manchester City, among others.
With the departure of Didier Drogba to Montreal, and the arrival of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao on loan, Remy was rumored to leave throughout the summer in search of first-team football, with Crystal Palace and West Ham as the possible destinations.
Recently, though, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was quick to rubbish all talks of Remy leaving, saying that Remy is definitely in his first team plans. And ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield encounter with Arsenal at Wembley, Remy says he hopes to be given more of a chance as he aims to improve on the nine goals he scored last season.
“I want to bring everything I can to the team, and I just want to do more as I think this season will be more difficult than the previous one. So, all the players must be better than last season, and I just want to be better, play more and score more.”
Fellow teammate and French international Kurt Zouma believes that having a strong mentality is important if the team wants to do well next season, as the Blues gear up to defend the Barclays Premier League Title and the Capital One Cup.
“The most important thing is that we are a team, and when any player comes on to the pitch, they must give everything. We are ready to do that like we did last year. Every team is difficult to play, they are all strong teams. But we must keep going and concentrate on achieving our target.”

Hearing these words from a 20-year-old defender certainly shows his maturity and why he is touted as the replacement to John Terry. Zouma has certainly got what it takes to be right at the top. Now whether he reaches there or not depends upon him.
As for Remy, it’ll be a very difficult job for him to replace Diego Costa, who scored a whopping 20 goals in all competitions last season. It is possible, though, because of Diego’s injury problems he’ll surely get his chances.
