The fans have been angry and disappointed with our performance yesterday and deservedly so! There was the hope that the team would get back to their best after the performance last week, but that hope is gone in smoke already.
The likes of Branislav Ivanovic, Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic etc. were again not up to their best (and that’s putting it mildly, as far as Iva is concerned!) while, Chelsea sits at the 13th position after 4 points in 4 games. Laughable!
A lot of has been written and criticised already by the fans and the pundits alike, but let’s find out what Mourinho had to say on our lackluster performance after the game:
“I cannot say I had 11 players at the same time performing,” Mourinho said. “Two or three of them, their individual performance were far from good. I blame myself for not changing one of them. I kept him in the game for 90 minutes and when I made the third change I realised I needed a fourth.
“I’m not happy because for me a performance is a collective performance, of 11 players at the same time. At this level, when opponents are good and well organised with nothing to lose, when you have this type of matches at this level you need people to perform.”
“I kept him in the game for 90 minutes and when I made the third change I realised I needed a fourth.” I hope he means Branislav Ivanovic here because I still don’t understand why he subbed off Cesar Azpilicueta when he was possibly our best player on the field!
The Serbian continued to struggle against the pace of Zaha and Bolassie and Mourinho, for some mysterious reason, continued him on the field while the likes of Azpi and Matic were subbed.
“If a player is not performing there are two ways to look at it. The first one is I trust so much the player that I will wait for the improvement. You wait, wait and wait and maybe it comes or doesn’t come. Or even while you are trusting the players arrives a moment when you think I have to change. And I can go both ways.”
Go the second way Mourinho! The need of the hour is to drop Ivanovic and slot Azpi on the right. At least that’s what every fan and pundit have been saying for a long time now.
The Portuguese, meanwhile, is also frustrated with the International break and reckons it won’t help his side improve going forward:
“Because of the international break, the next match is in 15 days,” he said.
“I don’t know what happens in 15 days… every player goes away with their national team and I stay for two weeks with four players.
“I can’t work, I can’t improve. At this moment, I can’t do anything during these two weeks to improve my team.”
The next game is Everton away on 12th. I would love to say that the Premier League ain’t over for us, yet! But, the way City have been performing, I am not so sure now!
