Amidst all the controversies that have been surrounding Chelsea for the past month or so, John Terry doesn’t seem to be fazed by any of that.
The “Captain, Leader and Legend” is more focused than ever for the upcoming season, even if that means training harder than he has ever done in his life. Now, in the mid-thirties, John Terry is at the twilight of his career, but that doesn’t stop him from hitting the strides every day:
“People said that because I am no longer playing for England it means I am not doing so much and not travelling.
“If anything, during the international breaks, I probably train harder than I ever do. There are no days off for me.
“I enjoy going into the training ground, getting on the treadmill and doing some extra work.
“I will continue to do that same regime this season and hope it serves me well.
“For me, what’s next is to keep playing. When that hunger goes, that drive to get out of bed to win trophies, I will hang up my boots.
“But it is as fresh as it always was, it’s the same as when I was 17 or 18 and, with that in mind, I will keep fighting.
That’s why he is still one of the best defenders in the country! Over the years, John Terry has slowed down and sometimes get exposed for pace in a one on one situation. But, his understanding of the game, his leadership qualities and his passion are unmatched.
John also has the full backing of Mourinho which has gone a long way in resurrecting his career. Although, that doesn’t mean he is irreplaceable:
“I’m still here. I showed that form last season and I need to do that again.
“I know that if I don’t, the manager will take me out of the side and replace me with somebody else.
“I’m not naive enough to think I’m irreplaceable.”

John Stones is being touted as the natural heir of John Terry and Chelsea are trying everything to land the 21-year-old Englishman. Hopefully, Terry continues his good form and fitness and sticks around with the first eleven for at least a couple more years for the smooth integration of Zouma and possibly Stones in our first eleven!
