By this time, last season, Diego Costa was the biggest talk of the town! After a brilliant preseason, the Spaniard settled in quickly with the first team and bullied the Premier League defenders, whilst scoring goals consistently.
Fast forward to this season; Diego Costa missed the majority of the preseason with a recurring hamstring injury. The 26-year-old did manage to recover in time to start both of our Premier League game, but so far, has looked just the shadow of his former self who was ruthless, yet clinical in front of the net.
With Loic Remy terribly out of form ( at least in preseason he was) and Radamel Falcao still being the Falcao of Manchester United, we desperately need Costa to get back to his best, if we are to defend our title against a hungry and resurgent Manchester City.
Talking to the press after our 3-0 loss yesterday, Costa talked about improvement and better communication within the squad:
“I want to do better in order to get back to the national team. I’m working hard for that.”
“We need to improve right now, we need to do things better, but we need to keep a cool head and communicate better.
“The coach did the pre-season just as he needed to, our fitness is fine, we just need to win a game and everything will change.
“I feel very well, I’m coming off an injury but I’m getting minutes and I feel better every time out.”

For us to improve and win games, Diego Costa needs to fire on all cylinder. It’s no secret that we heavily relied upon him in the first half of last season and if we want to be in the thick of the things, well, we need goals from him; it’s just as simple as that!
