Doing player ratings weeks after weeks after these kind of performances doesn’t seem plausible. But still, here we are, trying to rate the players after such a dismal show against a midtable side. At home. What can be more embarrassing that that!
Okay, so let’s get on with the ratings to see who was the worst of the lots:
Thibaut Courtois – 7
I can’t imagine what’s been going on Begovic and Courtois’ head. The goalkeepers must be bracing themselves after this Chelsea side has been allowing so many shots on goal. Still, the Belgian did whatever he can to keep it to just 2 goals conceded!
Kurt Zouma – 7
The Frenchman was really good and dominating and combined well with Gary Cahill at the heart of our defense. Certainly better than what John Terry has offered in the past couple of weeks!
Gary Cahill – 6.5
The Englishman might not have been spectacular, but he was equally good alongside Zouma. For once, I don’t blame him for any of the goals conceded.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 8.5
The Spaniard was my Man Of The Match by a long distance. Although, he did get mysteriously substituted in the second half for Robert Kenedy while, Ivanovic stayed on!
Branislav Ivanovic – 3
Another game, another horrible performance. Don’t need to say more than that, I am done with him. I don’t know why I gave those 3 points to him anyway.
Cesc Fabregas – 5
Seems like he has been playing for 6 months non-stop. Looks jaded and tired and vulnerable defensively. Certainly not at his decent itself, let alone his best.
Nemanja Matic – 5
The rock alongside which our defense was constructed last season has been broken, it seems. Whenever the Serbian is on the ball, he gets closed down by a couple of opposition players similar to Hazard. Fabregas is not equipped enough to play the holding role, so if Matic crumbles, we are finished. Opposition managers have figured that out, apparently!
Eden Hazard – 5
What’s wrong with Hazard? The Belgian was poised to overtake Ronaldo and Messi, but the way he is performing is appalling to say the least. Once again, Hazard was invisible for the better part of the last game and so was Chelsea!
Willian – 5
Pressed hard, tackled, closed down opposition players, defended etc. But, assisting, scoring, creating opportunities? He failed in that aspect just like he always has. We need Oscar to be fit ASAP!
Pedro – 6
Provided the assist for our only goal. Apart from that, he wasn’t much involved in the game. Settling down to the Premier League isn’t so simple after all!
Diego Costa – 4
The Spaniard may find his place in danger against Everton. I would gladly start Falcao ahead of him at Goodison Park.
Radamel Falcao – 7
Scored our only goal and generally looked very good with his movement. I am so desperate right now that I am hoping for Falcao to get back to his Atletico Madrid’s best, however improbably that is! I would start him at Goodison Park over Costa!
Robert Kenedy – 7
A strange substitution, but the Brazilian looked brilliant in his cameo. Hopefully, he will get more chances in the next few games!
Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 6
Again a strange substitution, but I guess Mourinho wanted his frustration to be known to Matic. Wished he did the same with Ivanovic!
