Chelsea target hands in transfer request

Chelsea have been adamant at signing the young English center back from the Merseyside club. However, his manager has been stubborn and moronic at times. It seems this saga could soon come to an end, or at least there is more drama to come.

John Stones of Everton has apparently slid his transfer request down Roberto Martinez’s door as he looks to force a move to Chelsea, who have been bidding for him since the past month or so. John Stones is valued at £40 million by the Everton hierarchy.

In the past, Chelsea bid at £20m, £26m and £30 million respectively and Everton obliged by rejecting each of the requests made by the Premier League Champions. Everyone expected the transfer to go through before the end of the season despite Roberto Martinez crying and whining multiple times in front of the media.

John Terry is suspended for a few weeks now and there could be no better time for Chelsea to finally have both their hands on the England defender. As things stand Chelsea only have Kurt Zouma, Cahill and Ivanovic for the two center back spots. It’s a safe but tricky situation in the short term. In the long run, Stones seems the ideal replacement for an ageing namesake.

He will still need the guidance and motivation to grow as a player if he is to ever fully fill in the shoes of the Chelsea captain, leader, legend. Now that he has handed in his request, there is perhaps more drama to come. However, common sense, something that’s not been on display from the Everton manager in the past few weeks says that there’s no point in keeping a player who wants to leave.

Nonetheless, Everton would in all likelihood stick to their valuation of £40 million for the defender. That makes him only a tad bit lower than the value for which Chelsea sold David Luiz to PSG. What goes around comes back around, as they say.

As for the (un)official confirmation of the request:

“Sky Sports claim that he has indeed handed in said transfer request to his club.”

“However, the player has now attempted to force the proposed move through by handing in a formal transfer request.”

It is believed that Chelsea are ready with an offer to snap up the disenchanted defender from Everton as soon as the Merseysiders yield to his request. Everton will make more than a ten fold profit on a player whom the acquired for about £3 million from Barnsley. Ironically, that’s the team he was set to face with Everton in the Capital One cup. If the Pedro deal is any indication, Chelsea will wrap up the transfer within the next 48 hours. The acquisition of the Englishman would take Chelsea’s summer spending to north of £90 million. Bring in the John!
