After failing to sign John Stones, Ezequiel Garay, Laporte and supposedly, a couple of other Center Backs, Chelsea are now set to sign Senegal centre-back Papy Djilobodji.
Yes, I know, hardly a name to get excited for. But then again, same were the case with Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill. Look how they turned out!
Okay, a bit of information on the Center Back. Papy Djilobodji is a 26-year-old Senegalese Center Back who plays for Ligue One club Nantes. Standing tall at 6ft.4in., the powerful CB has made over 170 appearances for his club and had a very good last season helping his side avoid relegation.
According to the Mirror:
“The 26-year-old defender is set for a medical after agreement was reached between the champions and his club Nantes.
“Djilobodji, who stands at 6ft 4in, has snubbed interest from a string of clubs including Celtic and Southampton to hold out for a Champions League club.”
As it stands, Djilobodji to Chelsea looks more and more imminent now with the defender just set to cost us around 3 Million Pounds. I should probably learn to spell his name for that matter.
Although, I should admit I have never seen him play, any addition at the back would be welcomed right now. But it does make you wonder; wouldn’t the likes of Christensen/Kalas/Omeruo/Ake could have done the job for us?
