You would think that after the signing of Baba Rahman, we would be done going after fullbacks. Apparently not!
DailyStar reports that Blues made an official 5 Million Pound bid for Galatasaray’s star Left Back Alex Telles! Given the fact that the news is coming from Daily Star, you would be excused if you don’t believe it. But these are desperate times and we are in dire need of defender(s). According to the reports, Gala manager Hamza Hamzaoglu had the following to say on our interest in Alex:
“We have not received a bid which matches our valuation for Alex Telles.
“Therefore we have not allowed him to leave. If a bid comes in close to our valuation we will consider selling.”
Telles, 22, joined the Turks from Gremio in January 2014 and has three years left on his current deal.
The first line virtually confirms that a contact was made and the Turkish side are holding out for more. Well, who can blame them anyway! Telles still has 3 years left on his contract, so no leverage there. They are probably aware of our deficiencies in the defense and the fact that we are considering to splash out 40 Million pounds for John Stones, it all adds up!
But the question is, why would we want to sign another Left Back just two days after we completed the signing of Baba Rahman? Is it a silly rumor? Or maybe Mourinho wants Cesar Azpilicueta to compete with Ivanovic in his usual Right Back role while, Rahman competes with Telles at Left Back?
As corny as it sounds, it would be a complete revamp of our defense and I don’t think Mourinho would want that especially after the start of the season. But then again, given the condition we are in, I would believe anything right now!
