Chelsea Football Club would not wish to increase their skirmish with FA any further, for which they should start thinking about the less number of English players in the team, since FA are looking to implement the new home-grown players rule this summer.
All the Premier League top sides will be looking to hunt more English talent during this transfer window, but it looks like the current English Champions will be the team who might face some serious trouble in this.
With only Gary Cahill and John Terry as the two regular English names in their starting eleven, and Terry probably left with his last season as a Chelsea player, the Blues will want to recruit the talent from their young squads and if possible, give a call back to their loanees.
Although the staring 11 looks all settled for the upcoming season, there might still be room for filling up the bench with home-grown talent.
After Falcao’s loan signing, the striker position doesn’t have any space left for a fourth striker in the upcoming season, but there can be a couple of good options for the upcoming years. Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford, for example, currently on loan to Middlesbrough, can come in as a good replacement for Costa and Remy. But the English striker who netted 19 goals in the Championship last season and was voted Championship Player Of The Year, remains a doubt whether he will accept to stay at Chelsea as their third option upfront. While, QPR’s Charlie Austin can also be an ideal option and a tough competition for the other two in the squad.
With almost all reports around the internet, saying that Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to stay at Chelsea for the season, the young midfielder will surely have an important role to play and plenty of opportunities after John Obi Mikel’s departure.
‘Next season Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be competing for a first-team position. At the moment we are protecting him. Next season he will not be a number, he will be a player’, Jose was quoted as saying in March.
Victor Moses can be a good option to have on bench too, as well rather than to move him on, if Juan Cuadrado leaves Chelsea in the near future.
After Cech’s departure to Arsenal, a second choice keeper for Courtois is a sure thing. QPR’s out of contract goalkeeper, Robert Green, will be a good replacement to have in the team and looks an ideal English GK who looks reachable at the moment.
Chelsea have not been playing very big in this transfer window, except for the signing of Falcao on loan from AS Monaco after one season at Man United, but the decisions they make in the coming days of this summer window shall be according to the new rules implemented by FA.
