Germany-born Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic is ecstatic with a move to French giants AS Monaco. He has moved to the club as part of a year-long loan deal that will see the Colombian veteran Radamel Falcao link up with Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. The talented Croatian is pretty excited with the move and is keen to prove his worth with the Les Rouges et Blancs, by filling in the shoes of departing Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The 20-year-old arrived at the Bridge on 9th July last year from the Croatian outfit Hajduk Split for a reported fee of £3 million and was loaned out to Elche CF 13 days later. Upon signing up for the Blues, Pasalic said: “I am very happy because I am now a Chelsea player.” He had a decent time with the Spanish club, netting in 3 times in 35 appearances and providing key assists.
Now on loan to Monaco, Pasalic feels that this move to Stade Louis II can boost his Chelsea first team prospects upon his return to West London.
In an interview with Goal, the young midfielder admitted he was not expecting an opportunity to join Leonardo Jardim’s team would come his way. In his words:
“I am delighted and it all happened like in a movie. On Wednesday, I was at the beach and [on Thursday] morning there was Monaco’s private jet waiting for me at Split airport!
I have signed a one-year loan and am proud to play at such a big club; it is an honour when a Champions League quarter-finalist wants you. I believe I will find my place in the starting line-up and prove to Monaco that they were right in bringing me here.”
When asked about his Chances to play for his parent club this season he remarked:
“Chelsea? No, it was not an option. I need to improve, grow and then hope to get a chance with Chelsea. I’ve had several interesting options but then Monaco appeared – and you don’t reject that.
I’ve met the director for football and spoke shortly to coach Jardim. We agreed to speak longer on our first training day – then, he will explain everything to me, what he expects from me… training starts on Monday.”
Pasalic turned up at Monaco just after the recently concluded transfer of Geoffrey Kondogbia, reported at €35 million to Inter. The Croation failed at hiding his excitement in replacing the quality French international and commented:
“Kondogbia is a top player and I am honoured that the club see me as his successor. Hey, I am 20 years old and have played in the Spanish and now the French leagues. Not bad.”
