Is Chelsea’s Attacking Mid-Fielder Following Lampard To MLS?

Chelsea and loan deals have become a part and parcel since quite a long time.

While majority of the loan moves are to Vitesse, due to the cordial ties between Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and Vitesse owner Alexander Chigirinsky, some deals are just for the sake of profit and to survive in the tough FFP era.

One such player who has been a part of the loan business since two seasons, away from the Bridge is the German attacking midfielder, Marko Marin. Spending a season with Sevilla in 2013-14, followed by a season at Fiorentina last season, he is now linked with a deal away from Chelsea. Marin joined Chelsea in 2012, along with Oscar and Eden Hazard. However, the German player has fallen way down the pecking order.

According to London Evening Standard, he is currently linked to MLS club, Sporting Kansas City. The midfielder featured in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, when Germany finished in the third place. Since then and his move to Chelsea, injuries and inconsistency have destroyed Marin’s career, who was once touted as the German Messi.

The more solid news of Marin joining Sporting Kansas City came in when the club CEO Robb Heineman dropped the news on the live telecast, when asked for the transfer targets this season. The MLS outfit already has some decent attackers in the likes of Dom Dwyer, Krisztian Nemeth, Benny Feilhaber and Graham Zusi.

However, the deal hasn’t materialized yet and if reports are to be believed, Heineman has openly announced transfer targets, which haven’t joined Sporting Kansas City; and I feel that deal is reckless as team’s budget is below par. Also, I feel Marin wouldn’t join the MLS, because he is just 26 years old and has lots of time in his hand to return to his lost form.

Who knows he may regain his form and his career might resurrect at Anderlecht, if he stays back. He has joined the Belgian club on January 20th, 2015, with an option to buy back. Also, his contract with Chelsea expires in 2017 and Chelsea might look to sell him rather than loaning him out again as his career at the top flight seems to be over.
