Lately, major tabloids have been reporting a shock transfer target for Chelsea. According to the metro, the player linked to Chelsea is the poster boy of German football, Mario Götze.
This transfer news comes in as a revelation because Götze has never been linked to Chelsea in the past and has actually been linked with Chelsea’s arch nemesis Arsenal and Manchester United. However, Jose Mourinho has shown major liking towards the Bayern Munich forward and tried to sign him during his days in Madrid. Mario Götze’s agent Volker Struth has slated against the Bavarian club’s management and claimed that Götze wants a move away from the Bundesliga winners. According to sources, a price tag of 49.6 million pounds has been demanded by Munich for the services of Mario Götze. So, we analyze how Götze fits in the squad and why Mourinho would love to have this asset in his squad for the coming season.
Strengths, Weaknesses and Style of Play:
Götze is one of the best attacking minded footballers in the present day and can occupy virtually any playing position in the attacking midfield. Be it left flank, right flank, attacking mid-field or a striker, Götze can don any role whenever called for; surely an asset that would please Mourinho a lot. However, Götze likes to play more as a classic No.10. He has been a tremendous asset to his nation and his ex-club Borussia Dortmund, but his amazing run of form has hit a brick wall ever since he had joined Dortmund’s rivals Bayern Munich two years ago.
Gotze’s major strength has to be holding on to the ball. Another major asset that Götze brings to the game is his key passing. Götze’s passes are always crisp and inviting for finesse shots. He boasts 45 scoring chances that he created last season with Munich. He has contributed with three assists last season and scored 16 goals for his side. Also, his dribbling skills are worth mentioning. His ability to go past the defenders has been pretty flawless. Obviously he isn’t as good as Eden Hazard but the German isn’t very far either. Another major asset Mourinho would like to see in Mario Götze is his passing ability. His average pass accuracy percentage is around 86% that is considerably high as compared to other midfielders in Europe.
However, his game has seen some obvious drawbacks over the last few seasons. He doesn’t like to backtrack much and work rate is considerably low. His tackling abilities are somewhat mediocre, and Götze would like to rally upon it. Aerial Duels are something on which a bit more training would help. Another point that Mourinho would like to improve about Götze if he joins Chelsea is diving! Götze gets fouled often and dives into challenges, and everybody knows how uncompromising Mourinho is against diving.
If Mourinho is planning to sell Oscar and if Pogba doesn’t come in, Mario Götze looks an amazing choice. He has won Bundesliga 4 times, DFB Pokal twice, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup once and of course FIFA World Cup in which he scored the amazing winner for Germany. If Mourinho wants to sign Mario Götze he needs to think quick and act even quicker.
