Charly Musonda, Chelsea’s 18-year-old midfield prodigy has attracted interest from some of the top European clubs including rivals Arsenal and Manchester City. Among others who are keen for his signature are Serie A giants AS Roma, La Liga outfit Valencia and the French clubs PSG, Marseille and Monaco. Dutch side PSV are also known to show interest in the midfielder.
According to reports in The Metro, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is preparing a transfer bid for the £7.2m-rated midfielder who is considered to be the next big thing in Europe by pundits and football fans alike. Chelsea fans, having swallowed the bitter pill after seeing their much loved and adored goalkeeping legend Petr Cech leave for the Gunners just recently, would surely hate to see another pensioner depart for the Emirates. Chelsea’s title rivals Manchester City are also in the race for Musonda. City boss Manuel Pelligrini is keen to get the Belgian on a permanent deal to Etihad.
Italian giants AS Roma are also believed to table a year-long loan deal with an option to buying later. The Giallorossi are looking to strengthen their attack amidst rumours of Seydou Doumbia and Gervinho, set to leave the Stadio Olimpico before the start of new season. French outfits Marseille, Monaco and Netherlands-based PSV Eindhoven also want the Belgian attacker on loan.
Musonda who is believed to be the hottest young properties in football at the moment is sizing all his options very carefully according to a source contacted by Foot Mercato, who said:
“There are big clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal and PSG, who want a direct transfer. But there is also Monaco, Marseille and PSV, who want to loan the player with an option to buying. Charly wants to play at the highest level next season and wants to go to a club where he can have guarantees in terms of playing time and of which will be of the same calibre as Chelsea. At The Blues, there are no guarantees, which is something that worries him, even if he is very attached to this club that has allowed him to discover a very high level.”
“Chelsea are open to letting him go, but not for less than €10m. And for the moment, Manchester City are ahead of Arsenal, PSG are a little less forceful in this transfer. You have to say that PSG are waiting to see what the FFP sanctions are and which players leave.”
“Today, he is keeping all options open, but a departure to a big club is a big possibility. Now, we need Chelsea to find an agreement with these big clubs. If not, he will without a doubt go on loan to PSV. It is a top Dutch club, which play an attractive style of football and who regularly play in Europe. For those reasons, they have an undeniable advantage on Monaco and Marseille, who are also very interested.”

The Belgian, when contacted, did not deny any of these reports. He said:
“Everything will depend on the discussions that I will have the coach and the club’s management.
For now I do not know at all where I will play next season, but I think a loan is possible. My priority is Chelsea and obviously if I can get playing time, I’ll stay, but if this is not the case, I will ask for a loan.”
