We ran a story few days ago with Pedro dropping a big hint over his Barcelona exit. The Spanish winger persuaded his parent club to lower his release clause from a laughable 110 Million Pounds to a more sensible 22 Million Pounds. According to Pedro, offers were on the table at that time, but he was yet to decide his future.
A few days later, the winger’s transfer to Chelsea looks imminent! Although, we still have to wait till the Barcelona’s Presidential election this weekend.
According to reports published in Daily Star:
“Barca boss Luis Enrique admitted he will not stand in the Spain winger’s way should he decide to quit for Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have already offered the 27-year-old a four-year contract and are confident of completing the transfer without a hitch.
But it cannot be finalized until after Barcelona’s presidential elections take place this weekend.”
We know better than to take Daily Star for face value, but almost every tabloid in Spain and England are reporting the same news. There’s also a statement from Barcelona boss Luis Enrique that further reiterate the facts:
“My wish is that Pedro stays, but there are circumstances in his contract and I will respect his opinion if he wants to leave.”
That sentence can be loosely translated as; Pedro doesn’t want to stay with Barcelona and he wants to quit the Nou Camp! With Neymar, Messi and Suarez ahead in the pecking order, there’s no way Pedro would manage any significant minutes at Barca. The arrival of Arda Turan from Atletico was just the final nail in the coffin for Pedro and leaving his beloved club is the only way he can save his career.
When quizzed about the situation, here’s what the soon to be 28 winger had to say:
“There are offers for me this summer and the situation is difficult.
“Any player wants to have playing time but it is getting more and more difficult with every season that passes.
“I would like to have finished my career here but we will have to see what happens. Obviously you are happier when you can play.”

Again the sentence loosely translated means; There’s no way I am rotting on the bench for another season here. I obviously love the club, but I need to play more. There are offers for me and I am going to accept them. Goodbye, Barca!
Honestly, I think, the Barca Presidential election is the only thing that is keeping this deal from happening. Unless something funny happens, Pedro is going to be a Chelsea player by the start of the next week at a bargain price of 22 million pounds. He is gonna compete with Willian, Cuadrado will probably be shipped out on loan and we are gonna enjoy completing a treble, which includes the Champions League! How’s that sounds?
