South American football’s greatest spectacle, the Copa America have already started.
Several Premier League stars will be in action and there are sure to be a few scouts watching in closely. Major tournaments can often be a treasure trove of unheralded talents and with Chelsea looking to dominate Europe, following a successful campaign this season. The fans are anticipating some quality signings this summer and many of them might be on show at the competition.
The below 6 stars from the tournament could be on Jose Mourinho’s radar:
1. Douglas Costa (Brazil) –
The 24-year-old currently is plying his trade for Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, but whenever asked he has never denied a move to the English champions.
“Chelsea are one of the great teams in Europe and Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world,” he told Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour.
Playing predominately on the right side, he could provide adequate competition to Willian.
2. Firmino (Brazil) –
The 23-year-old has reportedly caught the eye of Premier League clubs after impressing in the Bundesliga, scoring 49 goals in 153 games and recently hit the winner for Brazil against Honduras ahead of the Copa America.
“All I can say is that he will go to England,” his agent, Roger Wittmann, told Bild.
Playing largely on the left he could prove a decent signing for the club.
3. Jose Gimenez (Uruguay) –
Gimenez will not be a stranger to the audience of Spanish football, having played 26 times for Atletico Madrid last season, and the 20-year-old Centre-back is now ready to show what he can do for his country.
He did feature for Uruguay at the World Cup last summer, coming on against England, when Diego Lugano was injured, and staying in the side, with defensive pairing of Cahill and Terry getting older, Gimenez would add-up a potential backup.
4. Enner Valencia (Ecuador) –
There has always been a striking crisis at Chelsea, as the strikers either are linked with moves out of the club or are injury prone. The Ecuadorian posses Premier League experience and would be a perfect backup for the first choice striker.
Unfortunately for Jose Mourinho, West Ham will not let him go easily, but it may just be worth it.
5. Diego Godin (Uruguay) –
The Atletico Madrid defender is one of the world’s best and would easily make the transition into the ruthless Premier League lining up alongside veteran John Terry.
Brilliant in the air, he fits the bill in Chelsea’s set-piece style of play and packs one heck of a tackle.
6. Edinson Cavani (Uruguay) –
Paris Saint-Germain only achieved the treble last season, due to the Uruguayan’s excellent end to the campaign. He scored the winner in the Coupe de France while also scoring 34 goals in 45 appearances throughout all competitions.
Renowned for his finishing, the star will have plenty of opportunities to prove his worth, under Jose Mourinho.
