Jose’s second choice striker throughout the 2014-15 season after Diego Costa, Loic Remy has been linked with a move away from the Bridge this summer.
Also, Radamel Falcao’s imminent arrival to West London means even fewer game time for the French striker in the upcoming season. Crystal Palace are looking to make the most of this situation and have reportedly shown interest in the 28-year-old striker. According to ESPN, Palace have made initial enquiries to Chelsea about the player’s availability.
Palace manager Alan Pardew had earlier tried and failed to capture the player’s signature back in 2013 when he was in charge of Newcastle United. However, he did manage to get Remy on loan for the whole of the 2013-14 season during which he went on to score 14 league goals in 24 starts. Pardew’s interest in the striker has been no secret. After his successful loan spell with the Magpies, Pardew again made it clear that he wanted Remy at Newcastle before the beginning of 2014-15 season. A bid from Liverpool crashed down, leaving the striker with no option other than to return to QPR.
“The results speak for themselves; the fans loved him, and I think it’s a great place for him personally. There is a lot of baggage in the way at the moment because of what happened at Liverpool, and the fact he has a parent club in QPR. I wouldn’t say we’re not interested in him, of course we would be.”
Pardew’s wish didn’t come true this time around, as the striker ended up in West London on a permanent transfer. But the wish to play Remy in his team has still not faded away, as the ex-Newcastle manager now wants to acquire his services at Crystal Palace.
A part of France’s world cup squad last year, Remy played a crucial role in Chelsea’s Premier League and League Cup winning campaign. He scored 9 times in all competitions for the Blues after his move from Queens Park Rangers last summer.
Pardew’s team just managed to finish in the top 10 this season. Remy’s arrival at the club could be a big boost for the team to try and sign more prolific players and compete for even bigger spots in the league.
As for Chelsea, it is better to let the French striker go instead of seeing him on the bench for most of the season, playing in the shadows of Costa and Falcao.
