Chelsea Youngster Wants To Stay Back At The Bridge, But Will He Get His Chance?
According to report, Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford has reportedly turned down a move to Newcastle United and a chance to reunite with Steve McClaren. The 21-year-old wants to stay in West London and prove himself to be good enough for the first team.
It will be interesting to see whether he gets his chance in Jose Mourinho’s first team. To be fair, Chelsea are not a club known to promote too many players from the youth academy into the first team. The last person to come through the ranks and become a regular was, of course, John Terry. Bamford has certainly shown over the past couple of seasons that he has the ability and talent to play for a top side.
However, with the imminent arrival of Radamel Falcao, it is difficult to see the Englishman get too much of a look-in. On the other hand, Loic Remy could be on the move over the lack of first team action. This could mean Bamford would be the third-choice striker for the Blues. But knowing Jose Mourinho, it wouldn’t be too surprising if we get another striker this summer to replace Remy. Queens Park Rangers’ Charlie Austin is a name that has already been mentioned.
Bamford has spent the last few seasons on loan at MK Dons, Derby County and Middlesbrough. It was at Derby County where he worked with Steve McClaren. He impressed a lot of people with his performances for the Rams, and it is not surprising that the former England manager wants to work with him again. It was last season at Middlesbrough though, where he really shone, scoring 17 goals in the Championship; picking up the Championship Player of the Year award in the process. He scored one and assisted another in Boro’s shock 2-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup, thereby demonstrating that he can do it against the best of the best.
He has more than proven himself to get a shot at the first-team. He will join the club for the pre-season tour of the United States and look to catch the manager’s eye. It will truly be a breath of fresh air if the youngster gets an opportunity in the Premier League next season.
