Chelsea winger Gael Kakuta will be joining Spanish outfit Sevilla ‘within hours’ according to the club president Jose Castro.
In a statement released on the club’s official website Castro stated:
“The deal is very close and we can confirm it in the coming hours.”
Kakuta, 23, joined the west Londoners in 2009 as a 16-year old from the French club RC Lens and was impressive in the Chelsea academy, prompting then manager Carlo Ancelotti to grant him his first team debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers later that year.
However, he only managed five appearances for the Blues and had a series of unsuccessful loan spells with Fulham, Bolton Wanderers, Dijon, Vitesse Arnhem and Lazio. But the former French U-21 international enjoyed a stellar campaign for Rayo Vallecano in La Liga netting four goals and assisting six, during the last season, convincing Sevilla to make a move for the winger that now looks imminent.
A move to Sevilla will be a fresh start for the youngster whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires this summer, though Chelsea will still owe him compensation for the move as he is less than 24 years of age.
