Chelsea To Start Title Defense Without Stalwarts
Following Chelsea’s 1-0 win over the Sydney FC in their post-season friendly, Jose said that Chelsea will have to rest Filipe Luis, Juan Cuadrado and Willian after the Copa America that is set to commence this summer.
Chelsea have started their pre-season tour early this year because of other International competitions this summer. The players do not look like they’re brimming with energy and definitely need some rest after a long and tiring season.
The 2015 Copa America is scheduled to take place in Chile between 11th June and 4th July, just a month before the start of the Barclays Premier League 2015-16 season which kicks off on 8th August. During a press conference, Jose laid a lot of emphasis on how important it is for players to get good rest before the new season. He said:
“They need holidays. It’s very important for them they have their proper rest. They are at their limits of their physical and mental energy. In a couple of weeks, they will have their month holiday to prepare for pre-season. The players in the Copa America will need a rest after that. Willian, Cuadrado and Filipe will not start the season with us, for sure.” (Source: ibtimes)
Mourinho will not have this problem with Oscar and Ramires as both have not made it to the 23-man squad for Brazil, the latter due to an injury suffered earlier this month. On the other hand, Philippe Coutinho has worked his way into the team after an impressive show for Liverpool in the 2014-15 season. Brazilian legend Ricardo Kaká has also been included in the list.
