Even after signing a striker in Radamel Falcao, Chelsea are in pursuit of another striker from the Los Rojiblancos, this time it is Antoine Griezmann. Looks like Remy might be leaving the Blues this summer after all, and the board are in a hurry to find a replacement, and they seem to be going big after the Atletico Madrid frontman.
What is all the more remarkable is that the 24-year-old initially struggled to adapt to life following his big money move and did not score his first La Liga goal until November. The 30 million euros paid by Atleti to prise him away from Real Sociedad raised a lot of eyebrows, and with good reason. It was a fee that made him the second most expensive acquisition in the club’s history behind Radamel Falcao, and with it came the burden of expectation.
Simeone did not use him regularly at the beginning of the season, and new signing Mario Mandzukic stole all the limelight as he settled into the team and started notching goals right from the get go. But the manager did not give up on his big and small striker combination tactic, and it started paying back after November. The duo became more and more alive, and Griezmann started notching goals effortlessly and ended the season with 22 league goals.
Atletico Madrid are trying very hard to keep their talisman this summer. But tying him to the club with a lucrative new contract but that doesn’t seem to keep interested parties like Chelsea, Bayern and Manchester United off their player.
Everybody knows how versatile and valuable a player Griezmann is, with his abilities to beat players easily and find the back of the net calmly. He can be used as a lone striker, a winger, a false nine, a number ten and even as an attacking midfielder. His agility and acceleration helps him get off the mark and beat defenders easily. His tricky change of pace and brilliant first touch can be very useful in the last third for Chelsea.
According to latest reports from Metro:
“Chelsea are looking to add Mohamed Salah to their previous bid of £35.5m to clinch a deal worth around £46.2m in total.”

Now, that is a very lucrative deal that even the stubborn Atletico Board cannot refuse to accept. So let’s just wait and watch what happens next in this thrilling summer window that seems to be taking a lot of twists and turns.
